About the Author
Richard L. Scheaffer, Professor Emeritus of Statistics, University of Florida, received his Ph.D. in statistics from Florida State University. Accompanying a career of teaching, research and administration, Dr. Scheaffer has led efforts on the improvement of statistics education throughout the school and college curriculum. Co-author of five textbooks, he was one of the developers of the Quantitative Literacy Project that formed the basis of the data analysis strand in the curriculum standards of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. He also led the task force that developed the AP Statistics Program, for which he served as Chief Faculty Consultant. Dr. Scheaffer is a Fellow and past president of the American Statistical Association, a past chair of the Conference Board of the Mathematical Sciences, and an advisor on numerous statistics education projects.

Dr. Mendenhall served in the Navy in the Korean War and obtained a Ph.D. in Statistics at North Carolina State University. After receiving his Ph.D , he was a professor in the Mathematics Department at Bucknell University in Pennsylvania before moving to Gainesville in 1963 where he was the first chairman of the Department of Statistics at the University of Florida. Dr. Mendenhall published articles in some of the top statistics journals, such as Biometika and Technometrics, however, he is more widely known for his prolific textbook career. He authored or co-authored approximately 13 statistics textbooks and several books about his childhood.

Lyman Ott earned his Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and Education and Master's degree in Mathematics from Bucknell University, and Ph.D in Statistics from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute. After two years working in statistics in the pharmaceutical industry, Dr. Ott became assistant professor in the Statistic Department at the University of Florida in 1968 and was named associate professor in 1972. He joined Merrell-National laboratories in 1975 as head of the Biostatistics Department and then head of the company's Research Data Center. He later became director of Biomedical Information Systems, Vice President of Global Systems and Quality Improvement in Research and Development, and Senior Vice President Business Process Improvement and Biometrics. He retired from the pharmaceutical industry in 1998, and now serves as consultant and Board of Advisors member for Abundance Technologies, Inc. Dr. Ott has published extensively in scientific journals and authored or co-authored seven college textbooks including Basic Statistical Ideas for Managers, Statistics: A Tool for the Social Sciences and An Introduction to Statistical Methods and Data Analysis. He has been a member of the Industrial Research Institute, the Drug Information Association and the Biometrics Society. In addition, he is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association and received the Biostatistics Career Achievement Award from the Pharmaceutical research and Manufacturers of America in 1998. He was also an All-American soccer player in college and is a member of the Bucknell University Athletic Hall of Fame.

I found the book well written and understandable. There are a few formula errors in the book involving capital and lower case letters (which change the meaning of the formula), but my professor highlighted those errors. One can probably identify those errors on their own if you are understanding the material.

Most readable book on the topic

As a survey research practitioner for nearly 20 years, I completely disagree with the above reviewers. There are plenty of terse textbooks on the topic where one can obtain derivations for formulas and drown in academic details. In contrary, this excellent book is one of the most readable references I have come across so far. Among a half dozen or so texts I have on this topic, this book is the first stop and in many cases the last stop when I need to look up something in sampling and estimation.

One of the most entertaining and charming books I have read in quite some time. Rome itself becomes one of the many fascinating characters in the book. The Italian characters who weave in and out of the book make this an even more delightful read. Put this on your reading list - it's well thought-out, funny and full of all the familiar challenges in life set amid historical places and memorable characters.

McInerney has a knack for detail that makes his book a colorful and easy read. I enjoyed getting to know the characters, and I stayed interested in the paths their lives were taking throughout the book. This book was very appealing, and I highly recommend it!

A drum education classic!

The practice systems in this book will without question expand your abilities on the drums, making you a better improviser, improving your coordination, and giving you a greater command of displacement and the ability to move ideas around in your phrasing (including over the bar phrases and polyrhythmic-sounding ideas). Mark presents a detailed system to improve your playing in various areas (dynamics, rate, orchestration, phrasing), and along the way you'll be asked to develop your own ideas using his template. It's one of the few drum books I've seen that gives you a process for learning drums that results in you creating your own ideas, not just copying what's in the book.

Get into the mind of Mark Guiliana. "There are no short cuts"

Mark Guiliana reveals his methods for developing creativity. You begin to understand how Mark became such a monster musician; practice, practice, practice. Smart practice. In this book he's not showing you how to play like him, but how to develop your own creativity through the systems he has used to develop. This is a study in how to practice and get the most out what you can do, rather than a method book full of licks, grooves and fills. Mark encourages taking these concepts and making them your own. In fact, he sounds genuinely excited to know he is lighting the creative spark in others. This text is likely to become a classic for those drummers looking to find their unique voice and develop their command of the instrument. I look forward to bringing Mark's concepts into my own playing.

Needs time and commitment but it is all there and readable !

I am a professional Physicist so some of my remarks may be clouded by the fact that in principle at least all the related calculations are familiar to me.

I find the book by Vittore Cossalter as the ONLY serious and complete reference for the dynamics / kinematics of Motorcycles I have come across. The exposition is very readable and well presented and it has helped me sort out a lot of related issues that I have played around with through own calculations and computer simulations.

I would not recommend the book to people that hate maths as it is full of them (it is a technical book after all as it should be to cover the subject properly) but for anyone whose interests and capabilities go into the realm of motorcycle dynamics I consider it a must have.

I was especially interested in the tyre behaviour analysis (since this was the topic I was most unfamiliar with) but I would rate the whole of the book as top notch.

In a nutshell: If you like that kind of stuff, get it.

Beautiful book,written by a man who obviously loves motorcycles,it is a pure scientific approach and although I find it hard to follow(i have not gone to university)I do not regret buying it. Im actually proud to have this book in my bookcase but i will probably buy something simpler!

Saeid Mokhatab is a member of the International Advisory Board for EMERTEC Research and Development Ltd, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, as well as an advisor of natural gas engineering research projects in the Chemical and Petroleum Engineering Department of the University of Wyoming, USA. His expertise lies in the area of the hydraulic design and engineering of multiphase flow transmission pipelines and natural gas processing plants. Previously, he worked as a researcher in Cranfield University at England, working on TMF3 Consortium Sub-Project VII: Flexible Risers. He has participated as a flow assurance consultant and the engineering manager in various domestic and international gas-engineering projects, and has published more than 50 academic and industrial oriented papers, reports, and books. He is also a coauthor of forthcoming Elsevier's handbook of Flow Assurance in Oil and Gas Production. Mokhatab is a member of the editorial advisory board for Elsevier Book Publishing Company in North America and serves as a member of the editorial boards for ASME-PSD Monograph Series, Journal of Petroleum Science and Technology, Journal of Petroleum Technology, PetroMin magazine; a contributing editor for World Oil magazine, an associate editor for the International Journal of Modeling and Simulation, a technical editor for SPE Projects, Facilities and Construction Journal as well as a referee in several scientific journals and international pipeline conferences. William A. Poe is a Business Consultant for Invensys Process Systems - Global Solutions in Houston, Texas, USA. He has over 24 years of experience in chemical and gas processing plants design and operations, and has developed business relationships with several domestic and international gas processors, chemical plants and gas transmission pipelines owners. His main area of focus the past decade and a half has been automation, Multivariable Predictive Control (MPC), Advanced Process Control (APC), and optimization design and implementation for the natural gas processing and treating, sulfur recovery, ammonia synthesis, methanol synthesis, liquefied natural gas and power generation industries. Working under contracts to the Gas Research Institute, he developed new multivariable control applications in the natural gas, ammonia and methanol industries. Poe developed APC and Optimization Master Plans for international companies such as Saudi Aramco, Statoil and PDVSA as well as automation and advanced process control feasibility studies for about 100 natural gas processing, power generation, ammonia and methanol plants worldwide. He spent over a decade in natural gas processing operations and engineering experience with Shell Oil Company. Poe has project management experience with Shell Oil and GE Continental Controls with multimillion-dollar projects. He assumed the technical leadership of Continental Controls, a privately held company, through acquisition by GE. After joining GE as part of the Continental Controls acquisition, he became Vice President of this division of GE, which included direction of product development, projects, technical sales support and customer service. He has authored over 25 papers, presented at numerous technical conferences, and received the GE Innovators Award in 1999.

James G. Speight is a senior fuel consultant as well as an Adjunct Professor of Chemical and Fuels Engineering at the University of Utah, USA. He is recognized internationally as an expert in the characterization, properties, and processing of conventional and synthetic fuels and as a chemist with more than 35 years of experience in thermal/process chemistry, thermodynamics, refining of petroleum, heavy oil, and tar sand bitumen, and physics of crude with emphasis on distillation, visbreaking, coking units, and oil-rock or oil catalyst interactions. Speight is currently Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Petroleum Science and Technology, Energy Sources-Part A: Recovery, Utilization, and Environmental Effects, and Energy Sources-Part B: Economics, Planning, and Policy. He is also the author/editor/compiler of more than 25 books and bibliographies related to fossil fuel processing and environmental issues. Speight was Chief Scientific Officer and then Chief Executive Officer of the Western Research Institute, Laramie, WY, USA, from 1984 to 2000. During this period he led a staff of more that 150 scientists, engineers, and technicians in developing new technology for gas processing, petroleum, shale oil, tar sand bitumen, and asphalt. Speight has considerable expertise in evaluating new technologies for patentability and commercial application. As a result of his work, he was awarded the Diploma of Honor, National Petroleum Engineering Society, for outstanding contributions to the petroleum industry in 1995 and the Gold Medal of Russian Academy of Sciences (Natural) for outstanding work in the area of petroleum science in 1996. Thorough overview of the NGS system and operation considerations

I needed a handbook for quick reference on NG supply system and was glad to order this book. It was fairly expensive, hence I couldn't say "I Loved It" / one star deducted.

I found it to be a thorough and useful resource. It's written from a cost standpoint and provides an experienced considerations. That's really the most important aspect when one gets to the core of the energy business.
