Rational Analysis for a Problematic World Problem Structuring Methods for Complexity Uncertainty and Conflict Now, more than ever, planning and managing in the real world is beset by change and uncertainty. Knowledge is incomplete, values are in dispute, decisions of others are often unpredictable. Sheathed in opaque technicalities, inflexible and overambitious, the highly mathematical methods of analysing problem situations—largely unquestioned until the mid 1970s—are no longer considered acceptable. In their place a coherent alternative paradigm has emerged—a range of formal methodologies which aim not to produce ‘optimal’ solutions but to facilitate an enriched decision-making process. ‘Low-tech’ transparent and participatory, these methods assist in the formulation and reformulation of problem situation in an uncertain world. I have done masters degree in MATHEMATICS and have done some management courses also. Here I am a PROFESSOR in a COLLEGE where students do B.SC. from LONDON university under EXTERNAL PROGRAM. One of the subjects I teach is "MANAGEMENT SCIENCE METHODS". There is a portion namely "SOFT OR" for which we could not find material from any where else. This book has not only no alternate but also written in very simple way with technical examples and flow diagrams. My students last year got the DISTINCTION in this subject and this year I am also expecting DISTINCTION again from students. So I wanted to contact the auther and compliment the person. Finally as a teacher I would recommend strongly this book for the students of BSC. in MSM especially for the SOFT OR section, this is a must read.
